Telling an expired account from a blocked one
When a user account reaches its expiry date, it is blocked automatically. That automatic block is now identified by a distinct status — “Expired” — which should not be confused with a “Blocked” status decided manually by an administrator.
Above all, the expiry date stays visible after it has passed: you keep the history and can reactivate the account in full knowledge of the facts.
Who can manage account expiry?
Administrators and moderators. Standard users do not see this status; their account is simply blocked at expiry.
Spotting expired accounts
- Go to Management.
- Look for the “Expired” pill in the overview and in the user list.
- Use the status filter to display expired accounts only.
An account can carry both statuses: the “Blocked” pill remains displayed if the user has also been blocked manually.
Viewing and changing the expiry date
Click a user to open their profile panel. The expiry date is displayed there, together with a warning icon and an explicit note when it has passed.
Two icons let you act:
- Click the Edit icon to choose a new date.
- Or click the Delete icon to remove the expiry date entirely.
Depending on your choice:
- New date in the future: the “Expired” status is removed and the account can be unblocked.
- Date deleted: the account is unblocked automatically.
- Date still in the past: the account stays blocked with the “Expired” status.
Every change is recorded in the account's history.
Reactivating an expired account
Manual unblocking is refused as long as the expiry date has passed. A message tells you so explicitly.
To reactivate the account:
- Open the user's profile panel.
- Push back the expiry date, or delete it.
- Then unblock the account if necessary.
Manual blocking remains manageable independently, through the account blocking setting.
Importing accounts from a CSV file
Users imported with an expiry date that has already passed are created with the “Expired” status and their date is preserved. They are not marked as manually blocked. The import report reflects that status.
Good to know
- An expired user can no longer sign in, just like a manually blocked user. Their active sessions are invalidated.
- The error message shown at sign-in remains generic: it does not distinguish a manual block from an expiry.
- The “account blocking” setting does not reflect the “Expired” status: it only covers manual blocking.
- Accounts blocked before this change are not modified retroactively: their expiry date stays empty and they do not appear in the “Expired” filter.
- CSV exports and user search clearly identify expired accounts.
